C’est Bien – ‘This is the Sea 5’
The French magazine “Canoe Kayak” has published a review of “This is the Sea 5“… If you like what they say, remember the DVD has optional French, Spanish & Italian subtitles – and you can buy a download with subtitles in French – Italian – or Spanish.
New Simon Osborne expedition DVD
British paddler Simon Osborne was attracted to adventure at a young age. Spurred on by a desire to raise money for leukaemia after his older brother passed away, he became the youngest person to kayak around Great Britain in his early 20s. He has since become a BCU level 5 sea kayak coach, set up his own business, Seakayak Cornwall (in partnership with Jeff Allen) and teaches sea kayaking all over the world. He also continues on his own adventures and has paddled the South Korea coastline & rowed across the Atlantic. Simon filmed many of his trips & has now put together a DVD with films of his solo circumnavigation of Ireland, and his attempt to circumnavigate Madagascar. He made two 3-month long visits to the African island with Phil Clegg the first year, and with a local paddler on his next visit.
The DVD is 64 minutes long. It’s only in PAL format, which means it won’t play in most DVD players in the North America or Japan, but if you live in one of those countries and really want to see it then it should play on your computer. It’s £14.99 & Simon is donating £2 of that to leukaemia research. Cackle TV will also make a 50p donation to leukaemia research for any DVDs bought through us. You can buy it here.
An Upside down view of “This is the Sea 5”
I’ve spotted a few more reviews of ‘This is the Sea 5″ on the internet including one from Steve Gordon (shown above). Steve regularly blogs about kayaking in Israel – see his blog here.
Paul Caffyn kindly passed on to me the latest review of “This is the Sea 5” from the KASK newsletter (Kiwi association of Sea Kayakers). The review was written by Aussie paddler Dave Winkworth and he’s not afraid to say what he really thinks! It turns out he’s not a great fan of ‘dirty water’ or volcanoes. He thinks the ‘Islands of Fire’ film which won 2 awards for ‘best sea kayaking film’ is a ‘stocking filler’. But he loves some of the other films!
“This is the Sea 5” is coming
“This is the Sea 5” has been 4 years in the making so I’m excited to see it finally taking shape before me. It may seem like I spend lots of time doing fun things (and that’s what I aspire to!) but I fit in a lot of desk-time too. I’ve been editing 8 sea kayaking adventure films which will be released on another bumper-filled DVD in just a couple of months. There are 4 documentary length trip films & 4 shorter features; in total about 3 hours worth of inspirational movies. I’m still editing the last couple but can see the light at the end of the tunnel!
Beth Kennedy from Rapid Media has produced another great cover, with help on the words from Adventure Kayak magazine editor, Virginia Marshall.
“This is the Sea 5” will be launched at Canoecopia on 8th-10th March. I’ll be there to present the film at the world premiere party on the Saturday night & to show highlights of the film during the day. I’m also giving a presentation about my 1,000 mile paddle around “Tierra Del Fuego”.
I am likely to be going on a short tour of the US in March to present “This is the Sea 5” – if you are interested in hosting a showing then please get in touch.
Big thanks to Kokatat and Valley Sea kayaks for being title sponsors for the DVD & for supporting me in my paddling adventures.
I’m really grateful to 3 kind souls who are quietly creating French, Spanish & Italian subtitles for the DVD. These optional titles mean that the films will be able to be understood and enjoyed by thousands more people, so big big thanks to Gianfranco Liotta, Ivan Lamas & Yves Thomazeau for working really hard over the last few months to translate thousands of words. You are stars.
