Early morning start . . .
Day 4 – Tuesday 24 January.
On the water at 6 am, three hours before low tide. A calm morning with an offshore wind but we’ll be in the shelter of cliffs when low tide comes.
Stranded
Day 3 – Monday 23 January
A calm morning with grey skies and a slight sidewind. After breakfast we were on the water near to high tide. We saw dolphins again.
When the tide went out over a mile we stopped early, as we didn’t want to go outside the shallow reef in an offshore wind.
We found ourselves stuck in the bay so are camping at the top of a gravel beach.
It is a sunny and windy evening and we are cooking brown rice and lentils over a fire. An early start is planned for tomorrow.
Reaching Desdemona
Day 2 – Sunday 22 January 2012
Calm weather for a great day’s paddle. We spotted dolphins, penguins and sealions during the 48 km trip down the coast.
A long walk up the beach brought us to an early camp by the imposing wreck of the Desdemona, which came to grief in Cabo San Pablo in 1986.
The wind is picking up now and the pressure is dropping so we’ll see what tomorrow brings!
The first ten miles
Saturday 21 January 2012
Lovely start to the trip. Paddled about 10 miles in warm, sunny weather. The wind dropped and we saw eleven condors. We found a great spot to camp. Life is good!
